MEET The Gerry's Cafe Team

Featuring Natalie Griffin (Co-Founder), John Will (General Manager) & David (Barista)

Gerry’s Cafe in Arlington Heights is more than a place to grab coffee; it is a movement rooted in purpose and inclusion. Founded with a mission to create meaningful employment opportunities for adults with intellectual and developmental disabilities, the cafe is redefining what a community space can be. “80% of people with disabilities don’t have jobs,” shares Natalie Griffin, co-founder of Gerry’s Café., “Yet, we have 32 employees that have stayed since we hired them… they love their jobs, they have different abilities, and some have even been promoted to crew. We are that place of opportunity.”David the barista at Gerry's Cafe in Arlington Heights, IL

The team at Gerry’s Café leans into that opportunity, proving that their ability is not defined by limitations. Each day, guests are welcomed into an environment that feels both uplifting and intentional, where kindness differentiates their service from others. “The idea is that the mission will drive the people here for the first visit, but after that, we have to make sure that this is a world-class stop and the truth is, it is," says John Will, general manager at Gerry’s Café. “It’s just become this wonderful relationship with the community where it’s not a pity stop.  It’s because we know your name, we know your order, we know what you like, we know how you like it…and we produce at a level that the customers want.”  The impact extends far beyond the counter, as families, friends, and neighbors witness the power of inclusive employment in action.
