General Manager of the Westin Chicago Northwest and Meet Chicago Northwest Board Member
Hasan Ali grew up in Karachi, a cosmopolitan city in Pakistan. He grew up the only son with six sisters. He finished his first bachelor’s degree from University of Sindh in Business Administration and his second from Roosevelt University in Hospitality Management.
Starting his career in the restaurant industry, he worked as a general manager for two restaurants in Chicago. His first hotel job was as a room service cashier at the McCormick Center Hotel. He quickly moved through the ranks as a Food and Beverage Controller and a Director of Food and Beverage. He became a hotel General Manager for the first time in 2001 at the Holiday Inn Matteson where he served for six years. He continued working throughout the suburbs and in Northwest Indiana and Southern Wisconsin with nine years at Hostmark Hospitality Group and nearly three years at Bask Development and Management Group among others before landing at the Westin Chicago Northwest in 2021.
When asked what he finds most rewarding about his current position, he responds, “having a wonderful team to work with.”
A one-time professional cricket player, Hasan’s current hobbies include reading and art. Hasan is an award-winning artist with particular interest in portrait drawing. He lives in Morton Grove with his two daughters and “wonderful wife”.
When asked what he would like to share with young professionals getting started in the industry he advises, “It's a tough time currently, however, it’s a wonderful industry and rewarding too.”
