Woodfield Chicago Northwest Convention Bureau announces 2012 USA WEIGHTLIFTING JUNIOR NATIONAL CHAMPIONSHIPS Coming to Itasca, IL January 27 – 29, 2012
January 20, 2012: The Woodfield Chicago Northwest Convention Bureau is happy to announce that The 2012 Junior National Weightlifting Championships will be held at the Westin Chicago Northwest, 400 Park Blvd., in Itasca, Illinois, January 27-29, 2012. The meet will host Youth and Junior competitors, ages 12 to 20 years-old, in the sport of Olympic weightlifting.
About Olympic Weightlifting
The Olympic sport of weightlifting consists of two lifts: the snatch lift, and the clean and jerk. Skill sets include strength, power and technique. Olympic weightlifting can be used for training in all sports and is gaining an increasing amount of popularity in the sport of CrossFit.
Several of the teenaged athletes due to compete at the USA Weightlifting Junior National Championships have previously competed in the 2011 Youth World Championships in Lima, Peru. The Itasca National event will also feature teen athletes who currently hold Junior American records and are considered the top US weightlifters in their weight category. The National Championships will feature athletes in men’s and women’s divisions in weight classes ranging from 48kg (105.6 pounds) to 105+kg. (231 pounds).
United States Weightlifting National Resident coach Zygmunt Smalcarz will conduct a 45-minute clinic on the morning of Saturday, January 28, and will speak on the topic of “Identifying talent for the sport of weightlifting.”
The USA Weightlifting Junior National Weightlifting Championships will be held all day Friday, Saturday, and Sunday, and is open for the public to attend.
